Acland Street Cake Shops

Attraction Details

If ‘cakes and pies’ is your favourite catchphrase, Acland Street is a must-see pit stop. A mecca for foodies with a sweet tooth, this vibrant strip located just behind world-famous Luna Park, is lined with cute little bakeries packed to the rafters with sweet treats and savoury snacks ranging from Aussie favourites to rich, European delights.

Take a short stroll down the strip (it’s also not bad for some retail therapy) and it’s impossible not to stop in and treat yourself as you walk past the windows of these bakeries, which are literally chockers from ceiling to floor with every type of cookie, cake, slice and meringue in any colour you can imagine, smothered in chocolate (or not).

Here are a few of the most popular stops to indulge your sweet tooth.

Europa Cake Shop – 81 Acland Street

This lovely little shop wedged between Grill’d and a gelato shop, is hard to miss with its big, bold ‘Quality is our Policy’ signage and cute French café style seating outside. The windows are full of crafted chocolate, delicious glazed donuts, layered cakes, tarts and macaroons on one side, and you’ll often see a dramatic, sky-high cake design on the other. They also offer light breakfasts and toasties – a good option if you fear an impending sugar high.

Acland Cakes – 97 Acland Street

The first thing that catches your eye when you stroll past Acland Cakes is the rocky road in the front window, if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, you can also grab a homemade pie and a cheeky sarsaparilla for lunch and chill out for some serious people watching. Keep your eyes peeled for AFL players and entertainment celebrities who can often be spotted in the locality. These guys also offer an ‘oft’ talked about’ Nutella donut, match it with a vanilla milkshake for an over the top, fantastic saccharine experience.

Monarch Cakes – 103 Acland Street

A true old-school European Bakery, Monarch Cakes pride themselves on an unchanged attitude to quality and time over quantity – baking the same way their Grandmothers did when the store originated in Poland. These guys are famous for their Polish Baked Cheesecake, which is made to a 100-year-old recipe, but also make a mean vanilla slice.

These decadent bakeries and all of Acland Street’s wonderful delights are just a short walk from our Acland Street Accommodation.
